What is a Flare Gas Recovery Unit?

A Flare Gas Recovery Unit (FGRU) is a system that captures flare gases and returns them to the production plant for reuse as fuel or process gas.

How Does an FGRU Work?

ZEECO® FGRU systems are engineered for reliability and efficiency.

  • Capture: gases are induced from the flare header to the FGRU
  • Compress: gases pass through a compressor or an ejector to increase pressure
  • Condition: gases are conditioned to be sent back to the plant
  • Reuse: gases return to the plant for reuse as fuel or process gas

If an upset occurs requiring flaring, the recovery process stops, and the facility's flare system safely destroys the waste gas.

FGRU Benefits

ZEECO FGRU systems deliver an exponential advantage that literally pays for itself.

  • Near-zero flaring
  • Reduces fuel gas consumption
  • Reduces flare light, noise, & odor
  • Lengthens the life of the flare tip
  • Reduces emissions & complies with environmental regulations

Typical FGRU Sizing

  • Flowrate ranges: 0.1 typically 10MM SCFD (11,100 NM3/hr) — maximum recovery rates can be infinite
  • Pressure ranges: 15 to 1,200 psig (83 barg)

Services Offered

  • Engineered studies: Let us help you determine if an FRGU system is right for your facility. Our engineers will recommend system sizing, compressor technology, and any necessary ancillary equipment. They will develop the cost estimate and evaluate the payback period to help you decide the economic feasibility of an FGRU system.
  • Ingegneria, progettazione, fabbricazione, fornitura, installazione e avviamento di pacchetti FGRU.
  • Assistenza sul campo dopo l'avvio dell'apparecchiatura.

Advantages of Ejectors in FGRUs

Zeeco offers ejector technology as an alternative to traditional compressors. In certain situations, ejectors can provide distinct advantages for an FGRU system.

  • Reliability & simplicity
  • Low maintenance requirements
  • Significant cost savings
  • Nessuna parte in movimento
